Teaching Artist
JM Mitchell (he/him) is a Texas-born, but Brooklyn-based media and performing arts educator, filmmaker, and casting director with a passion for storytelling and empowering the next generation of artists. With over seven years of experience spanning youth theater, higher education, and production, JM brings both heart and hustle to every project. He holds an MFA in Social Documentary Film from the School of Visual Arts, and has a deep commitment to inclusive, student-centered learning. His superpowers? Making art fun, turning chaos into creativity, and fostering safe spaces where artists can shine. When he’s not on set or in the classroom, you’ll probably find him eating popcorn and cuddling with his cats, Sacha and Beau.
